Everett is currently teaching at BYU in the art department. He is recognized both nationally and internationally.

His works are creations of fiction that run parallel to reality. They are conglomerations of his experience and the made-up fantasies of his mind. The images create a narrative that is both loose and constructive. He is "building relationships between beauty, ecstasy, martyrdom, and apocalyptic" notions. By combining repeated patterns and abstract forms he fully utilizes the language of abstraction. Through reducing and simplification he creates a utopia where his stories can be told.
Anne Watson is an artist that exhibits nationally. She is also the executive director of the Marriner S. Eccles Foundation, an organization that funds non-profit organizations throughout the state.
She will be installing a multi-media piece, in our upper gallery, that is a visual and audio representation of her personal experience. The project is called "Shroud". Watson states that the one thing that we all have in common is pain. It is our "common humanity". "Shroud" is a collection of recorded stories from individuals who are going through the grieving process. It is communal, it is it is meant to be shared and experienced.

Through the creative process she copes with her personal losses and hopes that through exhibiting (sharing) her experience that others may gain strength.
Both artists are creating stories, both fictional and real, and both artists expect the viewer to rely on memory and personal experience to understand the work.
We hope you will join us at at an open reception that is free to the public on Friday, March 2 from 6-8pm.

Spring Workshops - Introduction to Ceramics

Spring Workshops
Introduction to Ceramics

An introductory class designed to put the student in touch with the magic of clay when used in making functional pottery and small sculpture. Griffin is coming from New York where he exhibits regularly. He will be installing new work constructed onsite that focuses on landscape.

Griffin's work takes the normal and mundane and elevates it to a newer artistic level. It moves between the public and private, the obscure and transparent. His work transcends any specific genre; constructed wooden panels wrapped in fabric resemble large minimal painting reminiscent of the color field painters and at the same time calls back to assemblage: handmade and rough.

Griffin's installations of mundane materials and hand-made construction engage the viewer and foster interpretation. His paintings, sculptures and multimedia collages explore the innate nature of materials and the context in which we encounter them. It balances between the recognizable and the foreign.

He will be lecturing at Snow College on Wednesday, February 22 at 7:00 p.m.

Third Annual Juried Art Show

CUAC is seeking entries for the Third Annual Utah Artist Juried Exhibition,
May 4-June 13. We will introduce Jared Latimer, the CUAC's new director; Peter Finnemore, a major European artist will be present to inaugurate his new exhibition; and CUAC
board members will be present to meet the public.

Jared Latimer is a graduate of BYU and Pratt Institute in New York City. Since graduating with his Masters of Fine Art in Painting from Pratt, he has taught part time at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, Art Academy of Cincinnati, University of Cincinnati, and Sinclair College. He has exhibited his art in
several states around the country, including the CUAC two years ago. As a professional artist he has an emphasis in abstract painting, figure drawing, and short films. He has also started his own graphic design firm and worked with major clients such as Honeywell, Proctor and Gamble (Tide, Crest, Biore, others), and Gateway. Latimer will bring a great work ethic, connections from around the country, and a good artistic vision to compliment his emphasis on education and coordination with the community.

Peter Finnemore has had solo exhibitions in seventeen countries including the United States (New York City), Germany, England, Switzerland, Italy, and others. He was included in last years? Venice Biennale, the world's largest and most important art exhibition where he represented his native country of Wales where he still resides. He will be installing new work in the
CUAC this week that is a continuation of his Project Jedi. This installation and collection of short films is loosely based on the US Military?s Project Jedi where marines were trained in special mind control techniques that would help them feel invincible, invisible, and able to conquer their enemies. The
work is a commentary on the absurdity of war, but also is an exploration of Welsh (and by extension, Western) culture and how we have a capacity for violence. His show will be up through the end of February.
